Durham, Claypath Delicatessen for DBTR - Kaspar & Lucy
https://wegottickets.com/event/678116/
We are delighted to welcome Kaspar Berry Rapkin & Lucy Piper and David and the Devil to Durham
KASPAR & LUCY are two established musicians on the UK's Blues scene who have come together to play the music they love - an upbeat brand of Hill Country and Delta Blues which has its roots in Clarksdale, Mississippi - the location where the duo first met.
Dedicated to capturing the raw hypnotic energy you'd find in a traditional 'Juke Joint', both musicians are devoted to keeping this unique music alive, with an added fresh edge!
Kaspar plays regularly on the London Blues circuit and has made appearances at many of the leading UK's Blues Festivals, both solo and with his band 'The Swamp Dogs', Kaspar has been obsessed by the blues and vintage music since he was 12 - half a lifetime ago. With his raw guitar sound, he has been described as a 100 year old blues man in the body of a 25 year old.
Lucy is well known on the scene as a session drummer, and has played with the likes of Ben Waters, Mississippi Macdonald, and James Oliver as well as spending time in the USA working with musicians such as Watermelon Slim & Robert Kimbrough Sr.
DAVID AND THE DEVIL plays soul searching delta blues using Mule Resonator Guitars. When you close your eyes and just listen, his voice and guitar take you back to what it must have been like to listen to the likes of Robert Johnson and Charley Patton. Previously known as Charley Hicks and featuring in several bands over the years, David and the Devil uses everything he’s learned and loved from heavy metal to delta blues to lo-fi and throws it into one giant pot just to see what happens.

“In other parts of the world they have cyclones, tornados, and hurricanes, in the UK we have Stompin’ Dave. Dave is a phenomenal artist…A great guitar player and vocalist and accomplished songwriter…he is also an outstanding dancer… ” Blues In The South.
A prolific artist in the studio, Dave is a former member of former UK Blues Band of the Year The Producers. With his songwriting Dave has engulfed himself in the masters of American roots music, remained true, but managed to produce “not…a sound of yesteryear that should be in a museum but real, modern and relevant that should be heard live” Blues Matters.
Joining Dave in this lineup is Lucy Piper on drums “one of the UK’s leading blues drummers” The Guardian. Lucy is the daughter of the late blues guitarist Julian Piper widely acknowledged as leading UK authority on blues. Julian played guitar on Lazy Lester’s 1987 album Rides Again which won a Blues Music Award. Universally recoginized as the highest award in blues music.

We are delighted to welcome Dave and Lucy on their first visit to north Wales. They are based in Devon and guitarist and vocalist Dave was recommended to us by our friends in the band The Producers. He is a superb guitarist and gets his moniker from using a stomp box in quite a unique way...he tap dances the rhythm! He plays a variety of blues styles but more particularly the blues from the North Mississippi Hill country in the style of R L Burnside. In 2024 he was nominated for an award in the UK Blues Federation Awards.
Lucy is a very much in demand drummer and The Guardian quoted " ...one of the country's leading blues drummers". She has played with Dave since 2022 and also regularly plays with Mississippi MacDonald. Her late father Julian Piper was a notable blues guitarist, writer, promoter and producer who spent time in Louisiana playing and recording with many legends and Lucy has followed in her father's footsteps and has visited and played in Mississippi many times including with the late Leo 'Bud' Welch who played for us a number of times.

Kaspar & Lucy (Support) w/Belle & Chain, The Craufurd Arms
BELLE & CHAIN is a goth country band fronted by Spencer Grammer. With breathy vocals like Dusty Springfield and stoic lyricism melding Johnny Cash to Portishead, at times sounding like a songstress on an episode of True Detective.
