Stompin' Dave & Lucy Piper Trio @ Evershot Village Hall

Stompin' Dave returns to Evershot Village Hall on Sat 10th June, 2023 with an exciting new trio featuring superb drummer Lucy Piper, and outstanding bass player Sophie Lord, assembling an exciting new trio.

A former member of former Blues Band of the Year The Producers. Stompin' Dave was nominated for a British Blues Award in 2014. With over twenty five years of performing experience Dave has consistently given over one hundred performances per year across the UK and beyond.

Dave's vast repertoire ranges from traditional songs and tunes, to vintage covers, as well as his own originals. “Let's face it, in adding the quality of his original material the man is a downright genius.” Blues In Britain.

Exeter based drummer Lucy Piper is daughter of the late blues guitarist, writer and broadcaster Julian Piper - acknowledged as a leading UK exponent and authority on blues. Lucy performed with Julian's band Junkyard Angels. The band were often the backing band for touring musicians from the USA.

In the past few years Lucy has spent many nights performing in Mississippi, USA alongside many top musicians. In 2019 and 2020 Lucy worked with double Grammy Award winning label Ruf Records on their annual 'Blues Caravan'.

Lucy played drums on Ryan Perry's album High Risk, Low Reward which was nominated for a Blues Music Award 2020. (Universally recognized as the highest award in blues music.)

Currently based in Devon, Lucy performs with many different bands, including her own Exeter based Mississippi Hill Country duo Southern Fried Groove Queens. Formed in 2020, they have already performed at several of the UK’s leading blues and jazz festivals.

Joining Dave and Lucy is tremendous bassist Sophie Lord. Mentored by Norman Watt-Roy bass player with Ian Dury and The Blockheads, Sophie has recently returned to her native county of Devon after living in London the last decade or so, as a bassist for hire.

Sophie has performed with an eclectic mix of different artist including former members of Level 42, UK singles charting R&B artist Marlon Roudette, punk legend Viv Albertine lead singer of The Slits, USA based keyboard Goddess Dona Oxford, critically acclaimed USA born bluesman Stephen Dale Petit, and Tony O'Malley - co founder of British soul ban Kokomo (who featured on Bob Dylan's Desire album), as well as with The Blockheads themselves, and many others. 

 

Sophie currently performs with all star blues band Bluesclub which includes former members of Paul McCartney, Dire Straits and The Pretenders, as well as playing with highly regarded Plymouth based blues musician Vince Lee. Sophie's bass lines are heavily featured on the upcoming Stompin' Dave & Lucy Piper Trio album Seven Hours In The Beehive.
